Quadrophobia is an instrumental progressing rock/jazz band from Chennai which comprises of pianist/keyboardist Hrisheek Ganesh, drummer Rahul Vanamali and bassist Prashanth Venkat. The band primarily focuses on music with rhythmic complexity, polyrhythmic content and frequent changes of meter. Their main influences include progressive rock legends Dream Theater and Armenian jazz pianist Tigran Hamasyan.
They started off as a duo at Km Music Conservatory initially back in 2015, when Hrisheek (pianist) and Rahul (drummer) met through a mutual fascination for the band Dream Theater and worked on a couple of projects. The duo later phased out due to their different academic paths but came back together 3 years later with the addition of Prashanth (bassist).
The first composition of the band was "Project 23" and composed and submitted for IndiEarth XChange 2018. During the beginning stages of writing the composition, the sounds were heavily influenced by Dream Theater, leaning more towards the old metal style of prog. In recent times, the discovery of Tigran Hamasyan as well as new comers Plini and Arch Echo has eventually led the composition to be slightly changed to have a lighter texture and keeping the rhythmically complex style more towards new age prog.
